Historical Memorabilia

Titanic Memorabilia

If you’re a history junkie, we have all the good stuff. Titanic sinking may have happened a whopping 102 years ago, but thanks to James Cameron, Titanic will always be fresh in our minds.

A Survivor Autograph

If you’d like to get a piece of Titanic history for yourself, we have an amazing collectible: an autograph of a Titanic Survivor.

We have a photo of the Titanic authentically signed by the late Millvina Dean (the youngest survivor of the Titanic). It is framed and includes an authentic used Titanic stock certificate.

Millvina Dean was only two months old when she was on board the Titanic, and passed away in 2009. It’d be a unique collectible to have!

World Cup Final Recap as Germany Wins Title

It’s all over!  The 2014 World Cup ended after extra time on Sunday as Germany’s Mario Gotze took down a tasty cross and smashed it into the far corner, making the breakthrough, which would prove to hold for the remainder of the mach.  While it was a very even match and could have certainly gone either way given the number of close chances between the sides, it would be the Germans’ day while the nearby country of Argentina and a pained Lionel Messi rued a tough way to lose the tournament.

But Germany had been the best team at the World Cup by a wide margin.  Their 7-1 demolition of the hosts Brazil proved that, as did other strong performances against teams like Portugal and France.  Top to bottom throughout the squad they were by far the strongest team.  Manuel Neuer was probably the best goalie, although he was rarely called into action.  The defensive line featured German heroes like Mats Hummels and Philipp Lahm while tough midfielders like Bastian Schweinsteiger kept opponents limited in chances.  Up front an array of options ranging from Thomas Muller to the World Cup goals record holder Miroslav Klose, to Mesut Ozil, and to impact-making substitutes like Andre Schurrle and Gotze meant that the Germans would always be keeping their opponents on their back feet.

In essence, the team was perfect.  They just needed to perform up to their level.  Even though they had a few shaky moments in the final against Argentina, and Messi made some strong runs into their penalty area, the damage was greatly limited and the Argentineans were presented just a handful of chances, all of which they failed to take.  Germany dominated this game just like every other one they played in this tournament and fully deserved the win.

What was most impressive to me was how the team dealt with the loss of Sami Khedira, who was lost to injury just prior to the kickoff.  Expected to be a key figure in slowing down Messi, his loss could have been the Achilles Heel for Germany.  But Schweinsteiger took on the defensive midfield role and played it perfectly.  By the end of the match he looked like a warrior coming home from battle!  He had grass marks all over his jersey, he had been the recipient of various harsh challenges by the South Americans, and even had blood streaming down his face after one nasty blow he received.  Watching him continue to fight minute after minute after continued harsh challenges shows the fight and passion that can only come from a game of this magnitude.  It was nice to see the player well rewarded for his efforts, and to me he was the man of the match!

The Germany national team showed us all why they are the master class of the world.  Their squad was far more talented and deep than any other, and it was no surprise that they are now the 2014 World Cup Champions!

2014 World Cup

Will the Germany Steamroller Continue through Argentina in the 2014 World Cup Final?

The beautiful celebration and glory of the Brazilian World Cup came to a frightening end on Tuesday as Germany thumped the home nation 7-1.  It was an entirely dominating performance against one of the world’s best teams, who many had expected to lift the cup.  Having also beaten Portugal 4-0 at this tournament, we can say for sure that the Germans have been the most powerful team.  But looking ahead, the Germans will face the best defense they have seen so far, and will have to counter against the world’s finest footballer, Lionel Messi.  Will the Germany romp continue or will Argentina have the final hurrah in the 2014 World Cup final?

Despite the fact that most experts now predict a German victory I am going to present something of a counter-argument.  Germany got very lucky in this World Cup in that they played most of their top opponents who were greatly wounded.

Against Portugal, they played against an injured CristianoRonaldo.  Lacking his usual power and pace, the Portuguese then imploded by means of a Pepe red card.  Another major force Germany encountered along the way was France, who played without their star player Frank Ribery.  Ribery plays with much of the German team at Bayern Munich and certainly could have held the key in battling his club teammates.  And of course, we must add an asterisk to the Brazil game highlighting the loss of Neymar, the next great Brazilian striker.  But another missing player was also key.  Defender and team captain Thiago Silva was missing from the game due to yellow card accumulation.  Thus, Brazil was without two of their best players on either end of the pitch.

And because of this advantage in facing top opponents without their best players at full strength, I think Germany has actually had a pretty easy road to the World Cup final.  However, that well has run dry because up next is Argentina, and Messi will certainly be playing.

Only a handful of players are on the same level as Messi.  Neymar, Ribery, and Ronaldo (when healthy) are among the few true difference makers in soccer.  At this World Cup, Germany hasn’t yet faced such an opponent.  Another concern for the Germans is that Argentina has a stiff defense that hasn’t conceded a single goal since the knockout rounds began against decent offensive teams like the Netherlands, Belgium, and Switzerland, who were all at full strength.

But Germany hasn’t chosen the lineups of their opponents and their displays at the 2014 World Cup have been most impressive.  Their roster oozes of talent from top to bottom where stars like Thomas Muller, Miroslav Klose, Philipp Lahm, and Mesut Ozil exert their will over opponents time and time again.  Needless to say, this mouth-watering matchup is completely up for grabs.  Yes, an Argentinean victory would help Messi achieve his dreams and rightfully become the legend he so covets to be, but you could say the same of half the German squad, who’s club and personal achievements still haven’t been matched with a World Cup title.

So who will win this clash of super power soccer titans?  I think Argentina will take the 2014 World Cup in a 3-2 thriller, led by some wondrous Lionel Messi moments!

3 of the Most Expensive Movies Ever Made

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s EndDisney went all out for the third POC movie, dropping $332 million dollars on the film. One can only wonder how much went towards Johnny Depp’s eyeliner.

Titanic Somehow James Cameron was able to convince the producers to give him $286 million dollars to make Titanic, and with the way the movie cleaned up at the Oscars, he can probably ask for more.

Spiderman 3 Hoping to create the same magic as Titanic ten years later, Spiderman 3 also cost $286 million to make. Unfortunately, the movie did not have the same amount of success.
